Book Recommendation…for the pastor’s preaching

It has been many years now since a little book called, Gospel and Kingdom written by Graeme Goldsworthy was put in my hands that caused the shackles to fall off my eyes to see God’s full redemptive plan in Christ throughout the whole of Scripture like never before.  Graeme Goldsworthy still remains the “go to scholar” on seeing how the gospel fits into the full storyline of the Bible.  A great service was done for us about 10 years ago where these 3 little gems of books by Goldsworthy: Gospel and Kingdom, Gospel and Wisdom, and The Gospel in Revelation were published and can be found in this one volume appropriately labeled, “The Goldsworthy Trilogy.”   If you are new to Goldsworthy and this volume seems a bit intimidating, I would start with Gospel and Kingdom and branch out from there.  If you are a pastor, you need to work through each of these 3 essential resources, which can be found on sale here.  It will only improve your preaching and understanding of Scripture.

Others helped by Goldsworthy’s work?

I have the trilogy but have yet to start it. It came the same time as Preaching the Whole Bible As Christian Scripture: The Application of Biblical Theology to Expository Preaching which I read first, and Gospel-centered Hermeneutics: Foundations and Principles for Evangelical Biblical Interpretation which I’m currently working through. These are must-reads for any bible teacher/preacher. I suppose I also ought to read According to Plan: The Unfolding Revelation of God in the Bible.

Hey Brian, one other book by Goldsworthy that is a bit more JV (so iv’e heard) is “According to Plan: The unfolding Revelation of God in the Bible.” This was a formative God-sent when i was about 21 years old wrestling with what to do with the law and how Abraham, David, etc fit into the overall redemptive Gospel theme. I hav’nt gotten a chance to read the trilogy yet, but i look forward to it.
