Book Recommendation…for the pastor’s encouragement.

History can be a wonderful counselor to us, reminding us others have gone before us and endured faithfully through the struggles.  This is especially true for pastors.  One of the greatest and most inspirational examples of this is the pastor/theologian and reformer, Martin Luther, captured best in this classic biography, Here I Stand.  Luther reminds us that the gospel of Jesus Christ is worth the fight, the struggle, and the suffering.  If you have not read anything on Luther, this is a great place to start.  If you have read on Luther, but not this particular biography, I would strongly recommend this become your next option.

Pastors, read, be encouraged, and press on.  The proclamation and preservation of the Word of God in our generation is worth it!

I could not agree more with your estimation of this classic work. I am currently re-reading the book to help in a writing project I have going with Lucid Books. I am using Luther’s life as an expression of the heart of the reformation, to bring biblically founded God-centered change to the church of Jesus Christ. I would love for you to stop by my blog some time and check it out:

As a young adult pastor in Southeast Texas, I genuinely appreciate the work you do on this blog to encourage us in the practice of shepherding.
