Interview with Rachael Denhollander about pastors protecting children and advocating for victims

This week the Southern Baptist Convention was shook to its core with the 3 articles researched and released by the Houston Chronical revealing the epidemic of sexual abuse in SBC churches (700 victims) over the last 20 years.

As many face the shock and grief around this revelation, pastors and church leaders are looking for ways to correct the many careless errors that have led to this horrific reality.

Almost one year ago, we were grateful that Rachael Denhollander agreed to allow us to interview her with the intent for her to speak directly to pastors on these matters. This 2-part interview was conducted many months before the Houston Chronical articles were released.  However, the wisdom, insight, and helpful guidance Rachael Denhollander gives pastors from her many years of advocacy for sexual abuse victims is just as relevant now as it was last year when first recorded.

We asked her questions like: What steps might a pastor and church take to establish a culture of prevention and recognition of sexual abuse? What responsibilities do pastors have in the investigation of accusations of sexual abuse? How should pastors prepare themselves to minister well to sexual abuse victims? Do pastors and churches need a written policy for dealing with sexual abuse? How does the hope of the gospel speak to victims of sexual abuse?

Listen as Brian Croft and Jim Savastio interviewed Rachel Denhollander concerning these issues and more.
